SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 200 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Gloria Bonita Guinn Jennings, who is retiring from the Cherokeean Herald after a distinguished journalism career that has spanned 54 years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Jennings is a native of Rusk and a 1953 graduate of Rusk High School; after beginning her career at the Rusk Cherokeean during the 1960s, she worked for the Jacksonville Daily Progress for more than a decade; she returned to her hometown in 1982 to work for the Cherokeean Herald, formerly the Rusk Cherokeean; and WHEREAS, In addition to her work as a journalist, Mrs. Jennings has served in the United Methodist Church as a pastor at churches throughout East Texas; she has also been active in her community as a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and she served for 14 years on the Rusk City Council; and WHEREAS, She has had an exemplary career in the newspaper business and is respected and admired by her colleagues and readers, and her presence at the Cherokeean Herald will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Gloria Bonita Guinn Jennings on her commitment to high-quality journalism and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
