SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 214 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Starr County Youth Fair on the occasion of the event's 50th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Since it was first held in 1965, the Starr County Youth Fair has served as an annual showcase for youth achievement while providing wholesome fun and entertainment for the entire family; and WHEREAS, The fair is taking place February 26 through 28, 2015, and the theme of the 50th anniversary celebration is "Proud of our Past--Ready for the Future"; events leading up to this year's fair are paying tribute to those men and women who have worked to make it a yearly success, including the Guillen family, former parade marshals, and pageant and scholarship winners; and WHEREAS, The fair offers a wide range of activities, and is preceded by the annual Starr County Cook-off, a wild game dinner and scholarship fundraiser, the selection of the Starr County Queen, Princesses, and Cowboy, and the annual Western Parade; during this year's fair, musical entertainment takes place nightly and features such performers as the Riverside Band, Texas Dezire, and Los Relampaguitos; and WHEREAS, The Starr County Fair has played an important role in the cultural life of the region for a half century, and it is truly fitting that it receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors and organizers of the Starr County Youth Fair and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 50th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special event.
