| 4 | 4 | | Education Group of Buffalo Gap, Texas, have combined forces to |

| 5 | 5 | | promote the study of all things relating to Texas; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Schreiner University has developed a Texas |

| 7 | 7 | | Studies minor which will be offered through online distance |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | learning to students of all institutions of higher learning |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | within the State of Texas; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Studies program offered by Schreiner |

| 11 | 11 | | University will incorporate an interdisciplinary approach, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | involving one required lower-division introductory course in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Texas studies and upper-division classes in Texas history, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | political institutions, economic and corporate development, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | visual arts, natural sciences, ethnic studies, and culture, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | literature, and music; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The study of Texas will strengthen the knowledge |

| 18 | 18 | | base of all students enrolled in Schreiner University's Texas |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Studies program and better prepare students to be productive |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | citizens of 21st-century Texas; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Schreiner University is celebrating the |

| 22 | 22 | | "kick-off" of its Texas Studies program in the spring semester of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 2015 with a campus-wide celebration on Texas Independence Day, |

| 24 | 24 | | March 2, 2015; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the week of March 1 through 7, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 2015, as Texas Studies Week within Texas and commend Schreiner |

| 28 | 28 | | University in Kerrville and the McWhiney History Education Group |

| 29 | 29 | | for offering Texas Studies to the people of Texas. |
