SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 221
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Juan Osorio Ortiz, who has been named Mr. Amigo 2014 by
the Mr. Amigo Association; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is given each year to a
Mexican citizen who exemplifies the friendship between the
United States and Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortiz is a longtime producer of telenovelas,
which are prevalent in both Mexico and the United States; his
passion for drama and theater began as a young boy, when he would
memorize all the roles in school plays so that he could fill in
for someone who was absent; and
WHEREAS, After beginning his career as a production
assistant, he got his first major chance for advancement when the
position of executive director came open for the telenovela La
Gloria Y El Infierno; his success in that position led to further
opportunities, and he has gone on to serve as executive producer
for such productions as Marisol, Salome, Una Familia Con Suerte,
and Mi Corazón es Tuyo; and
WHEREAS, His extensive body of work also includes film,
radio, and theater projects; he is truly deserving of recognition
for his efforts to address important social issues in his
programming and for producing work that has strengthened the
cultural bond between the United States and Mexico; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Juan Osorio Ortiz on his many
achievements as the producer of telenovelas and extend
congratulations to him on his selection as Mr. Amigo 2014; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
