                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 229
 WHEREAS, Members of Texas Crime Stoppers are gathering in
 Austin on February 23, 2015, to participate in Crime Stoppers Day
 at the State Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, In response to a soaring crime rate in 1981, the
 Texas Crime Stoppers Council was established to advise the
 governor on Crime Stoppers operations; Texas Crime Stoppers
 provides resources, training, and certification to local
 programs, and it administers grants from the state-appropriated
 Crime Stoppers Assistance Fund; moreover, it engages the public
 to increase awareness and protect communities from crime; and
 WHEREAS, Today, there are more than 150 certified
 community and campus Crime Stoppers programs in Texas; their
 members work tirelessly to ensure the safety of communities and
 schools, and since 1981, these efforts have helped bring in more
 than 1.4 million tips from anonymous citizens, resulting in the
 arrests of over 200,000 suspects and the recovery of more than
 $1.4 billion in property and narcotics; and
 WHEREAS, Through their unyielding commitment to public
 safety, the members of Texas Crime Stoppers have made a lasting,
 positive difference in their communities and beyond, and it is
 indeed fitting to recognize their accomplishments at this time;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby recognize February 23, 2015, as Crime
 Stoppers Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those
 participating sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable
 event.
