| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Pioneers Youth Leadership, Incorporated, on the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its Pioneers State Leadership Forum, which is being |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | held January 21 and 22, 2015, in Austin; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Pioneers Youth Leadership was established in 2012 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | by Garry Merritt and Travis Helm as a means to develop a new |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | generation of leaders in rural Texas communities with critical |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | thinking skills and a commitment to protecting the environment |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and building sustainable communities; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Now in its third year, this outstanding program |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has grown from 19 students in Real County to include 200 students |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 16 school districts across South Texas; these young men and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | women research, develop, and conduct programs in their |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | communities in the areas of water conservation, rural |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | entrepreneurship, and school improvement; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Students also take part in leadership camp, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | career and professional development workshops, and college |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | readiness advising; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The State Leadership Forum provides students the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | opportunity to engage in workshops with and make presentations to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Texas Water Development Board, the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Agriculture, and the Texas Education Agency and to receive |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | feedback from state leaders; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This exemplary initiative is playing a vital part |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | in preparing young people to assume leadership roles in their |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | communities, and it is truly deserving of special recognition; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend the organizers of and participants |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in the Pioneers Youth Leadership program on their commitment to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | public service and extend to them best wishes for a productive |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Pioneers State Leadership Forum; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
