| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize February 25 and 26, 2015, as Palestine Day at the State |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The seat of Anderson County, Palestine was founded |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | in March of 1846, a few months after Texas was admitted to the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | United States in December of 1845; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Palestine was largely an agrarian community until |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 1872, when the International and Great Northern Railroad was |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | founded and established its headquarters in the city; Palestine |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | then grew rapidly throughout the 19th century and early 20th |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | century; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A mecca of historic resources, Palestine has over |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1,800 historic houses and buildings, most of which are located in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the four National Register Historic Districts and three local |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Palestine Historic Districts; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Noted for its exceptional success in preserving |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | its historical integrity, Palestine is a Texas Main Street City, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a National Main Street City, and a Preserve America City; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Historical Commission, the City of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Palestine, the Palestine Economic Development Corporation, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the citizens, businesses, and civic organizations of Palestine |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | deserve recognition for preserving the city's rich past and for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | retaining the charm the city offers residents and visitors today; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the citizens of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Palestine for their contributions to our state and extend best |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | wishes for the future to all who are celebrating Palestine Day at |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | honor of the City of Palestine. |
