| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating February 25, 2015, as |

| 4 | 4 | | Transit Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Texans are served by a number of metropolitan |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | transit authorities, including the Corpus Christi Regional |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Transportation Authority, Capital Metro in Austin, the Fort |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Worth Transportation Authority, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, VIA |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, the Metropolitan Transit |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Authority of Harris County, SunMetro of El Paso, the Denton |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | County Transportation Authority, and the members of the Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Transit Association that provide public transportation services |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in their respective communities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The state's transit authorities provide more than |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 285 million passenger trips each year, giving Texans the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | transportation they need in order to go to and from work, school, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | medical appointments, and countless other destinations; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Transit agencies offer citizens a wide variety of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | transportation systems, including traditional fixed-route bus |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | service, park-and-ride options, para-transit service, van pools, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | rail service, downtown trolleys, tourist tram services, harbor |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | ferries, and various special-event services; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, These exemplary organizations have led the way in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | providing transportation services for people with disabilities |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | through such methods as para-transit service, accessible |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fixed-route service, and a broad range of mobility improvements |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in the streets and sidewalks of their communities; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Texas transit agencies are truly deserving of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | commendation for their exemplary service to the people of this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 25, 2015, as Transit Day at |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegations best wishes |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | for an enjoyable and memorable day in Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |

| 36 | 36 | | honor of this special occasion. |
