| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome the visiting delegation from Pearland on the occasion of |

| 4 | 4 | | Pearland Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of Pearland was established in 1893 and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | named for the many fruit trees that grew in the area; hurricanes |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and other harsh weather made agricultural life difficult in the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | initial decades of the city's history, but the city began to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | thrive after oil and gas were discovered in 1934; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Today, the city boasts a flourishing economy and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | an effective school system; the local chamber of commerce works |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | diligently to continue the city's course of successful development |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and helps to keep the citizenry informed on matters that affect |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Pearland enjoy the benefit of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | proximity to Houston and Galveston attractions while cherishing |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the unique charm of their beloved community, which was recognized |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by the National Civic League in 1999 as an All-America City; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Pearland is an outstanding place in which to live, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | work, and raise a family, and citizens can indeed take pride in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the place they call home; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 25, 2015, as Pearland Day |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation best |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | wishes for a memorable day in Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
