| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Civic and business leaders of the Coastal Bend are |

| 3 | 3 | | gathering in Austin on February 25, 2015, to celebrate the many |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | qualities that make their region one of the state's premier |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | vacation destinations; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Coastal Bend draws more than 8.6 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | million travelers from across the country and around the globe; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | in Corpus Christi alone, approximately 7.4 million guests |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | collectively spend nearly 20 million days visiting the city, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | thereby infusing over $1.2 billion into the local economy and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | supporting some 29,000 jobs; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The myriad popular attractions in the area include |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Padre Island National Seashore, the Texas State Aquarium, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, with its 182 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | acres of tropical flowers, butterflies, and parrots; in addition, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | visitors enjoy such cultural and educational venues as the Art |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Museum of South Texas, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | History, and the USS Lexington aircraft carrier; the Coastal Bend |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | also hosts many youth and amateur sporting events; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Tourism is a mainstay of the state economy as a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | whole, generating billions of dollars in state and local tax |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | revenue while bolstering businesses related to transportation, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | retail sales, dining, and entertainment; the Coastal Bend area |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contributes significantly to the vibrancy of this industry in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Lone Star State, and its residents may indeed take pride in the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | rich heritage and natural beauty that bring so many visitors to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 25, 2015, as Coastal Bend |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the region's delegation |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable event. |
