| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating April 8, 2015, as |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The practice of pharmacy in Texas traces its roots |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | to the Spanish missionaries, explorers, and physicians who came |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | to the region in the 17th century; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The first permanent organization of Texas |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | pharmacists, the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, was founded |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in Dallas in 1879; its mission was to organize pharmacists on a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | professional basis, establish legal guidelines for the profession, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and improve educational standards for pharmacists; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A school of pharmacy was established at The |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1893; it was |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | moved to the Austin campus and became the College of Pharmacy in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1927; the first law regulating the practice of pharmacy was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | passed in 1889, and the current Texas Pharmacy Law was enacted in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1929; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Today, pharmacy in Texas has become a major |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | profession with invaluable influence on the field of health care; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | pharmacists' opinions are sought to help make decisions in every |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | aspect of medicine; pharmacists are truly deserving of special |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognition for the profound impact they have on the health |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | science and on the health care of our state's citizens; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the pharmacists of Texas on their |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commitment to quality health care and extend to them best wishes |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | for a productive and rewarding Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and, be it further |
