55 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
66 generosity of Helen Kilroy of Santa Fe, Texas, who passed away on
77 December 22, 2014, at the age of 70; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on November 5, 1944, Helen Kilroy worked as
99 an executive assistant and later enjoyed a career as a travel
1010 agent; she and her husband, Jim Kilroy, shared 47 years together
1111 and became the parents of two beloved sons, Mark and Keith; and
1212 WHEREAS, In addition to her personal and professional
1313 responsibilities, Mrs. Kilroy served as a volunteer with many
1414 organizations in the Santa Fe and Hitchcock region; she played an
1515 instrumental role in establishing the Santa Fe Independent
1616 School District School Education Foundation and served on the
1717 board of Santa Fe Parks and Recreation; a district leader for the
1818 Bay Area Council Cub Scouts, she helped start the Cub Scout pack
1919 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; as a member of that church
2020 for more than 40 years, Mrs. Kilroy served the congregation as a
2121 Eucharistic minister and as the organizer of the church's
2222 auction, and she also fostered seven young children through
2323 Catholic charities; furthermore, she volunteered as an emergency
2424 medical technician and paramedic for the Santa Fe Emergency
2525 Medical Services ambulance and worked with Meals on Wheels; and
2626 WHEREAS, Of all her community endeavors, closest to her
2727 heart was her establishment of the Mark Kilroy Foundation with
2828 her husband; named in honor of the couple's 21-year-old son who
2929 was kidnapped and killed in Mexico by drug smugglers in 1989, the
3030 foundation was created to support anti-drug efforts; Mrs. Kilroy
3131 also helped organize the Substance Abuse Free Environment
3232 program and the annual Mark Kilroy Foundation Fundraiser, which
3333 helps secure grants for youth counselors; and
3434 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family and her community,
3535 Helen Kilroy lived a caring and purposeful life, and she will
3636 forever be remembered with admiration and affection by all who
3737 held her close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3939 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Helen Kilroy and
4040 extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her family: to
4141 her husband, Jim Kilroy; to her son, Keith Kilroy, and his wife;
4242 to her two grandchildren; to her three sisters; and to her other
4343 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4545 prepared for her family and that when the Senate adjourns this
4646 day, it do so in memory of Helen Kilroy.
