| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, A number of outstanding Texas organizations are |

| 3 | 3 | | working together to raise awareness of the importance of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | out-of-school initiatives for students, and it is indeed fitting |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | to acknowledge their endeavors as they gather in Austin on |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | February 26, 2015, for Expanded Learning Opportunities Day at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Partnership for Out of School Time is a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | statewide network of nonprofit, public, and private sector |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | groups dedicated to providing students in kindergarten through |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 12th grade with a wide selection of before-school, after-school, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and summer break activities; its sweeping list of providers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ranges from such nationally recognized organizations as the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and 4-H to local service and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | faith-based organizations and municipal programs; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities initiatives give |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | youths, many of whom are otherwise unsupervised after school |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | hours, a safe and supportive environment where they can engage in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | performing and fine arts, health and nutrition programs, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | physical activity, and character building; participation in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | these activities has been shown to improve grades, test scores, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | attendance, behavior, and grade promotion; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Expanded Learning Opportunities programs have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | helped countless young Texans to aspire to the highest level of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | personal development and have enhanced the quality of life in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | communities across the state, and those who devote their time and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | energy to these goals are deserving of our deep respect and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | appreciation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 26, 2015, as Expanded |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Learning Opportunities Day at the State Capitol and extend to all |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | those participating sincere best wishes for the future. |
