11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 292
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join the citizens of Jefferson and Orange Counties in the joyous
44 celebration of Golden Triangle Days at the State Capitol on March
55 1 through 3, 2015; and
66 WHEREAS, Hundreds of visitors from throughout the
77 culturally unique region formed by the cities of Beaumont,
88 Orange, and Port Arthur have come to Austin to meet with elected
99 officials in order to express appreciation for their work and to
1010 inform lawmakers of opportunities to further strengthen the
1111 communities that make up the Golden Triangle; and
1212 WHEREAS, Jefferson and Orange County residents have
1313 gathered for Golden Triangle Days to demonstrate their
1414 commitment to working together for the good of their region and
1515 the great State of Texas; and
1616 WHEREAS, Jefferson and Orange Counties are important
1717 providers of energy and chemical manufactured products; the
1818 region is home to the Sabine Neches Waterway, which supports the
1919 Ports of Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur; the ship channel is
2020 fourth in the nation in tonnage, first in bulk liquid cargo, and
2121 first among the nation's commercial military out load ports; the
2222 federal government in legislation signed by the president on June
2323 10, 2014, authorized improvements that include deepening the
2424 ship channel from 40 to 48 feet, which will further enhance this
2525 globally competitive gateway to Texas; and
2626 WHEREAS, The region links to an extensive rail and pipeline
2727 system that supports communities and businesses across the
2828 country in refining a minimum of 13 percent of America's daily
2929 fuel consumption; construction has been completed on the
3030 Keystone pipeline from Oklahoma to Jefferson County; with over
3131 $21 billion in announced new economic development projects and
3232 another $24 billion under consideration, the region has
3333 developed strong business prospects, and it was first in Texas in
3434 gross domestic product growth in 2014; and
3535 WHEREAS, The distinctive cultural and historic
3636 contributions of this region are highlighted by numerous tourist
3737 attractions, including Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature
3838 Center, Big Thicket National Preserve, and coastal habitats such
3939 as Sea Rim State Park and the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge,
4040 which match the region's economic contributions with a strong
4141 commitment to the environment; the area is home to Lamar
4242 University, Lamar State College--Orange, Lamar State
4343 College--Port Arthur, and the Lamar Institute of Technology;
4444 these and many other education and training assets contribute
4545 significantly to the development of a workforce-ready
4646 population; and
4747 WHEREAS, The people of Orange and Jefferson Counties have
4848 been building a vibrant, forward-reaching region, and it is a
4949 pleasure to acknowledge the public-spirited citizens from the
5050 Golden Triangle for their dedication and commitment to their
5151 communities and to this great state; now, therefore, be it
5252 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
5353 Legislature, hereby recognize March 1 through 3, 2015, as
5454 Golden Triangle Days at the Capitol and welcome the region's
5555 visitors to Austin.
