1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 292
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	join the citizens of Jefferson and Orange Counties in the joyous
4	4	celebration of Golden Triangle Days at the State Capitol on March
5	5	1 through 3, 2015; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Hundreds of visitors from throughout the
7	7	culturally unique region formed by the cities of Beaumont,
8	8	Orange, and Port Arthur have come to Austin to meet with elected
9	9	officials in order to express appreciation for their work and to
10	10	inform lawmakers of opportunities to further strengthen the
11	11	communities that make up the Golden Triangle; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Jefferson and Orange County residents have
13	13	gathered for Golden Triangle Days to demonstrate their
14	14	commitment to working together for the good of their region and
15	15	the great State of Texas; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Jefferson and Orange Counties are important
17	17	providers of energy and chemical manufactured products; the
18	18	region is home to the Sabine Neches Waterway, which supports the
19	19	Ports of Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur; the ship channel is
20	20	fourth in the nation in tonnage, first in bulk liquid cargo, and
21	21	first among the nation's commercial military out load ports; the
22	22	federal government in legislation signed by the president on June
23	23	10, 2014, authorized improvements that include deepening the
24	24	ship channel from 40 to 48 feet, which will further enhance this
25	25	globally competitive gateway to Texas; and
26	26	WHEREAS, The region links to an extensive rail and pipeline
27	27	system that supports communities and businesses across the
28	28	country in refining a minimum of 13 percent of America's daily
29	29	fuel consumption; construction has been completed on the
30	30	Keystone pipeline from Oklahoma to Jefferson County; with over
31	31	$21 billion in announced new economic development projects and
32	32	another $24 billion under consideration, the region has
33	33	developed strong business prospects, and it was first in Texas in
34	34	gross domestic product growth in 2014; and
35	35	WHEREAS, The distinctive cultural and historic
36	36	contributions of this region are highlighted by numerous tourist
37	37	attractions, including Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature
38	38	Center, Big Thicket National Preserve, and coastal habitats such
39	39	as Sea Rim State Park and the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge,
40	40	which match the region's economic contributions with a strong
41	41	commitment to the environment; the area is home to Lamar
42	42	University, Lamar State College--Orange, Lamar State
43	43	College--Port Arthur, and the Lamar Institute of Technology;
44	44	these and many other education and training assets contribute
45	45	significantly to the development of a workforce-ready
46	46	population; and
47	47	WHEREAS, The people of Orange and Jefferson Counties have
48	48	been building a vibrant, forward-reaching region, and it is a
49	49	pleasure to acknowledge the public-spirited citizens from the
50	50	Golden Triangle for their dedication and commitment to their
51	51	communities and to this great state; now, therefore, be it
52	52	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
53	53	Legislature, hereby recognize March 1 through 3, 2015, as
54	54	Golden Triangle Days at the Capitol and welcome the region's
55	55	visitors to Austin.
