| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Boys and Girls Clubs in Texas for the valuable |

| 4 | 4 | | contribution they make to the young people and families of this |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | state; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to over |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 360,000 school-aged youth in more than 180 communities in Texas; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | their goal is to inspire all young people, especially those who |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | need it most, to realize their full potential as productive, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | responsible, and caring citizens; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Through strong, evidence-based, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | proven-effective youth development programs, leaders in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Boys and Girls Clubs stress character and leadership |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | development, education and career advancement, and health and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | life skills; they encourage an appreciation for the arts and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provide programs in sports, fitness, and recreation; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The programs promote a better self-image and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | improved education, social, emotional, and cultural awareness |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | while encouraging community involvement, strong moral values, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and enhanced life management skills; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs programs result in positive |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | outcomes in the three primary areas of academic success, healthy |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | lifestyles, and good character and citizenship; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, On March 3, 2015, one of eight finalists from |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texas will be chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year to represent |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the State of Texas in the National Youth of the Year competition |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, On March 3, 2015, one of seven Military Youth of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Year honorees from Texas military-based clubs will be chosen |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | as Texas Military Youth of the Year to represent the State of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Texas in the National Military Youth of the Year competition for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | encouraged young people to aspire to the highest level of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | personal development and to become good citizens who are involved |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Boys and Girls Clubs across |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Texas for the outstanding services they provide to young |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | people and their families; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | the clubs as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
