11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 304
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Boys and Girls Clubs in Texas for the valuable
44 contribution they make to the young people and families of this
55 state; and
66 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to over
77 360,000 school-aged youth in more than 180 communities in Texas;
88 their goal is to inspire all young people, especially those who
99 need it most, to realize their full potential as productive,
1010 responsible, and caring citizens; and
1111 WHEREAS, Through strong, evidence-based, and
1212 proven-effective youth development programs, leaders in the
1313 Boys and Girls Clubs stress character and leadership
1414 development, education and career advancement, and health and
1515 life skills; they encourage an appreciation for the arts and
1616 provide programs in sports, fitness, and recreation; and
1717 WHEREAS, The programs promote a better self-image and
1818 improved education, social, emotional, and cultural awareness
1919 while encouraging community involvement, strong moral values,
2020 and enhanced life management skills; and
2121 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs programs result in positive
2222 outcomes in the three primary areas of academic success, healthy
2323 lifestyles, and good character and citizenship; and
2424 WHEREAS, On March 3, 2015, one of eight finalists from
2525 Texas will be chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year to represent
2626 the State of Texas in the National Youth of the Year competition
2727 for Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and
2828 WHEREAS, On March 3, 2015, one of seven Military Youth of
2929 the Year honorees from Texas military-based clubs will be chosen
3030 as Texas Military Youth of the Year to represent the State of
3131 Texas in the National Military Youth of the Year competition for
3232 Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and
3333 WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have
3434 encouraged young people to aspire to the highest level of
3535 personal development and to become good citizens who are involved
3636 in their communities; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3838 Legislature, hereby commend the Boys and Girls Clubs across
3939 Texas for the outstanding services they provide to young
4040 people and their families; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 the clubs as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
