| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Citizens from Shelby County, including members of |

| 3 | 3 | | the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, are celebrating Shelby |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | County Day at the State Capitol on March 5, 2015; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Originally organized by the Mexican government as |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Tenehaw Municipality, this lovely region was reorganized as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Shelby County by the Congress of the Republic of Texas in 1836 and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | was named for Isaac Shelby, a United States Revolutionary War |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | soldier from Tennessee; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Shelby County's landscape is rich with hills and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | timber and is an ideal area for hunting, fishing, and camping; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Center, the county seat and the county's largest |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | town, is home to the Shelby County Museum, Shelby College Center, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and the Shelby County Courthouse, which is listed on the National |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Register of Historic Places as the only Irish-castle-style |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | courthouse in the nation; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Nestled deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | county is abundant in natural resources, and the area's economy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | is boosted by the Haynesville Shale, timber, cattle, and poultry |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | production; although agriculture has served as the foundation of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the county's economy, manufacturing has also played an important |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | role since 1850; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Center will celebrate the Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Department of Transportation's completion of the Loop 500 extension |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in 2015; the enhanced transportation infrastructure will support |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the growth of local industries, retail businesses, and residential |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | development by easing congestion, improving traffic flow, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | allowing for an expansion of infrastructure to previously |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | underserved areas of the city and county; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This unique and vibrant county continues to be one |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | of the Lone Star State's most treasured regions, and it is a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | pleasure to pay tribute to the residents of Shelby County and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | express appreciation for their contributions to our fair state; |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 5, 2015, as Shelby County Day |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | at the State Capitol and extend to the delegation from Shelby |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | County sincere best wishes for an enjoyable visit; and, be it further |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
