5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

6 | 6 | | memories of George Houston Parker of Runaway Bay, who passed away |
---|
7 | 7 | | on August 1, 2014, at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, George Parker was born on September 25, 1936, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Oklahoma City, to Merl and Stella Parker; a member of the Texas |
---|
10 | 10 | | National Guard during high school, Mr. Parker served in the |
---|
11 | 11 | | United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1956 to 1961; |
---|
12 | 12 | | he graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to enjoy a |
---|
13 | 13 | | distinguished 34-year career with IBM in California before his |
---|
14 | 14 | | retirement in 1995; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Following the passing of his second wife, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Mr. Parker reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Bettye |
---|
17 | 17 | | Ferguson; the couple married in 2001, and two years later they |
---|
18 | 18 | | moved to the Lone Star State to make their home in Runaway Bay; |
---|
19 | 19 | | Mr. Parker was the proud father of two daughters, Tammy and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Melanie, and he later became a devoted stepfather to his stepson, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Mike, and stepdaughter, Karen; over the years, he knew the joy of |
---|
22 | 22 | | welcoming 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren into his |
---|
23 | 23 | | cherished family; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Active in a number of worthwhile organizations |
---|
25 | 25 | | and causes, this esteemed gentleman volunteered extensively with |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Republican Party in both California and Texas and also |
---|
27 | 27 | | assisted the Republican Women of Wise County; he and his wife |
---|
28 | 28 | | Bettye traveled widely, and he also enjoyed golfing and fishing; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, George Parker lived a life that was rich in the |
---|
30 | 30 | | intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all who |
---|
31 | 31 | | were blessed to share in his love and affection; now, therefore, |
---|
32 | 32 | | be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Houston |
---|
35 | 35 | | Parker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |

36 | 36 | | to his wife, Bettye Parker; to his daughter, Melanie Parker; to |
---|
37 | 37 | | his stepson, Mike Ferguson; to his stepdaughter, Karen Shadden; |

38 | 38 | | to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other |

39 | 39 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
