44 George Houston Parker
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of George Houston Parker of Runaway Bay, who passed away
77 on August 1, 2014, at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, George Parker was born on September 25, 1936, in
99 Oklahoma City, to Merl and Stella Parker; a member of the Texas
1010 National Guard during high school, Mr. Parker served in the
1111 United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve from 1956 to 1961;
1212 he graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to enjoy a
1313 distinguished 34-year career with IBM in California before his
1414 retirement in 1995; and
1515 WHEREAS, Following the passing of his second wife,
1616 Mr. Parker reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Bettye
1717 Ferguson; the couple married in 2001, and two years later they
1818 moved to the Lone Star State to make their home in Runaway Bay;
1919 Mr. Parker was the proud father of two daughters, Tammy and
2020 Melanie, and he later became a devoted stepfather to his stepson,
2121 Mike, and stepdaughter, Karen; over the years, he knew the joy of
2222 welcoming 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren into his
2323 cherished family; and
2424 WHEREAS, Active in a number of worthwhile organizations
2525 and causes, this esteemed gentleman volunteered extensively with
2626 the Republican Party in both California and Texas and also
2727 assisted the Republican Women of Wise County; he and his wife
2828 Bettye traveled widely, and he also enjoyed golfing and fishing; and
2929 WHEREAS, George Parker lived a life that was rich in the
3030 intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all who
3131 were blessed to share in his love and affection; now, therefore,
3232 be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3434 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Houston
3535 Parker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
3636 to his wife, Bettye Parker; to his daughter, Melanie Parker; to
3737 his stepson, Mike Ferguson; to his stepdaughter, Karen Shadden;
3838 to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to his other
3939 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4141 his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
4242 so in memory of George Houston Parker.
