5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Joseph Lee Richmond, who died February 22, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2015, at the age of 65; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Joe Richmond was born on May 6, 1949, in Raton, |
---|
9 | 9 | | New Mexico; he graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo in |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1967 and went on to earn a degree in psychology from West Texas |
---|
11 | 11 | | State University in 1972; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Richmond moved to Austin in 1974 and began his |
---|
13 | 13 | | long and productive career in transportation by serving as a |
---|
14 | 14 | | shuttle bus driver for The University of Texas; during his |
---|
15 | 15 | | service, he met Nancy Burkholder, and they married in 1977; they |
---|
16 | 16 | | were blessed with two sons, Travis and Grant; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He joined Capital Metro in 1985 and held a number |
---|
18 | 18 | | of positions with the company, including that of liaison to The |
---|
19 | 19 | | University of Texas; the university provided him with an office |
---|
20 | 20 | | on the campus that he had grown to love, and he gained the |
---|
21 | 21 | | experience he needed to develop into a recognized expert in his |
---|
22 | 22 | | field; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, During his time in Austin, Joe Richmond took great |
---|
24 | 24 | | pleasure in the city's vitality and its cultural offerings, |
---|
25 | 25 | | notably its live music scene; he frequented such venues as the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Armadillo World Headquarters, Antone's, and the Continental |
---|
27 | 27 | | Club, and he enjoyed the performances of such iconic musicians as |
---|
28 | 28 | | Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Gary Clark Jr.; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In 2001, he married Jennifer Kam, and the couple |
---|
30 | 30 | | moved to Denton, where he served as director of transportation |
---|
31 | 31 | | for the University of North Texas; after nearly a decade of |
---|
32 | 32 | | exemplary service, he returned to Central Texas and served as |
---|
33 | 33 | | director of Transportation Services at Texas State University; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, He was a man of many interests and talents who was |
---|
35 | 35 | | noted for his engaging personality and the great joy he took in |
---|
36 | 36 | | life, and his courage, his generous spirit, and his enthusiasm |
---|
37 | 37 | | for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
---|
39 | 39 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all |
---|
40 | 40 | | who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
43 | 43 | | family of Joseph Lee Richmond; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
45 | 45 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
47 | 47 | | memory of Joseph Lee Richmond. |
