55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Joseph Lee Richmond, who died February 22,
77 2015, at the age of 65; and
88 WHEREAS, Joe Richmond was born on May 6, 1949, in Raton,
99 New Mexico; he graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo in
1010 1967 and went on to earn a degree in psychology from West Texas
1111 State University in 1972; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Richmond moved to Austin in 1974 and began his
1313 long and productive career in transportation by serving as a
1414 shuttle bus driver for The University of Texas; during his
1515 service, he met Nancy Burkholder, and they married in 1977; they
1616 were blessed with two sons, Travis and Grant; and
1717 WHEREAS, He joined Capital Metro in 1985 and held a number
1818 of positions with the company, including that of liaison to The
1919 University of Texas; the university provided him with an office
2020 on the campus that he had grown to love, and he gained the
2121 experience he needed to develop into a recognized expert in his
2222 field; and
2323 WHEREAS, During his time in Austin, Joe Richmond took great
2424 pleasure in the city's vitality and its cultural offerings,
2525 notably its live music scene; he frequented such venues as the
2626 Armadillo World Headquarters, Antone's, and the Continental
2727 Club, and he enjoyed the performances of such iconic musicians as
2828 Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Gary Clark Jr.; and
2929 WHEREAS, In 2001, he married Jennifer Kam, and the couple
3030 moved to Denton, where he served as director of transportation
3131 for the University of North Texas; after nearly a decade of
3232 exemplary service, he returned to Central Texas and served as
3333 director of Transportation Services at Texas State University; and
3434 WHEREAS, He was a man of many interests and talents who was
3535 noted for his engaging personality and the great joy he took in
3636 life, and his courage, his generous spirit, and his enthusiasm
3737 for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and
3838 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3939 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all
4040 who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
4242 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4343 family of Joseph Lee Richmond; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4545 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4646 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4747 memory of Joseph Lee Richmond.
