| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Mansfield are visiting |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin to celebrate the distinctive attributes and achievements |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | of their community during Mansfield Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in the Cross Timbers country of North |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Central Texas, south of Arlington, the settlement was first |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | established by pioneers in the 1840s; in the late 1850s, R. S. Man |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and Julian Feild built a gristmill in the area, at the crossroads |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | that later became the center of the town, which was named for the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | two men; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Feild soon added a general store across the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | street from the mill and became the town's postmaster in 1860; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | during the Civil War, the Man and Feild gristmill supplied meal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and flour to fighting soldiers, and it later did the same for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | those at United States Army outposts and Indian reservations in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas and New Mexico; though incorporated in 1909, the town |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | remained a farming community until the suburban expansion of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Dallas-Fort Worth area brought many new residents; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Today, the city's more than 60,000 residents can |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | enjoy 240 acres of parks and a quality of life reflected in the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | town's inclusion on Money magazine's 2012 list of the top places |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to live in the United States; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mansfield will be led in 2015 by the members of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | its city council, including Mayor David Cook and Mayor Pro |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Tempore Larry Broseh, as well as Brent Newsom, Stephen Lindsey, |

| 26 | 26 | | Darryl Haynes, Cory Hoffman, and Wendy Burgess; also committed to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the town's well-being are members of the Mansfield Area Chamber |
