5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Colonel Wayne Bert Sorensen, United |
---|
7 | 7 | | States Army, Retired, who died February 18, 2015, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 72; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Wayne Sorensen was born on September 15, 1942, in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Violet and Bert Sorensen; he earned a |
---|
11 | 11 | | degree in business administration from the University of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Minnesota; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He served the nation with distinction for more |
---|
14 | 14 | | than two decades as a member of the United States Army; he |
---|
15 | 15 | | enlisted as a Medical Service Corps officer, and his overseas |
---|
16 | 16 | | tours of duty included Vietnam, Germany, and Korea; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure in the military, he earned a |
---|
18 | 18 | | master's degree in health care administration from Baylor |
---|
19 | 19 | | University and a doctorate from the University of Iowa; he rose |
---|
20 | 20 | | to the rank of colonel, and his last assignment in the army was as |
---|
21 | 21 | | executive officer to the chief of Clinical Services, 7th Medical |
---|
22 | 22 | | Command, Heidelberg, Germany; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement in 1992, he began a second |
---|
24 | 24 | | career as a consultant and university professor; he worked for a |
---|
25 | 25 | | number of health care organizations and programs and served as a |
---|
26 | 26 | | member of the Health Care Administration faculty at Texas State |
---|
27 | 27 | | University; he served as department chair and made numerous |
---|
28 | 28 | | overseas trips representing the university on assistance visits |
---|
29 | 29 | | to several eastern European countries; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sorensen was recruited in 2010 to serve as the |
---|
31 | 31 | | first director of Health Care Administration for Concordia |
---|
32 | 32 | | University in Austin; through the years, he was active in a |
---|
33 | 33 | | number of professional and philanthropic organizations, most |
---|
34 | 34 | | notably the Down Home Ranch in Elgin; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, strength, and compassion |
---|
36 | 36 | | who gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
37 | 37 | | counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to |
---|
38 | 38 | | share in his life; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
40 | 40 | | grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
---|
41 | 41 | | forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
44 | 44 | | family of Colonel Wayne Bert Sorensen; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
46 | 46 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
48 | 48 | | memory of Wayne Bert Sorensen. |
