5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Morris Chapman Taylor, |
---|
7 | 7 | | who died on February 17, 2015, at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Morris Taylor was born on May 28, 1939, in Fulton, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kentucky; he attended high school in South Fulton, Tennessee, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of |
---|
11 | 11 | | Tennessee, Knoxville and a master's degree in applied physics |
---|
12 | 12 | | from the University of California, Los Angeles; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He moved to Texas and completed his doctoral |
---|
14 | 14 | | studies in nuclear physics at Rice University; he went on to earn |
---|
15 | 15 | | his senior postdoctoral fellow appointment at M. D. Anderson |
---|
16 | 16 | | Cancer Center, where he researched accelerator production of |
---|
17 | 17 | | isotopes and both therapeutic and diagnostic radiation; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A leading researcher in his field, Mr. Taylor |
---|
19 | 19 | | published more than 25 articles in national magazines and |
---|
20 | 20 | | professional publications, and he was awarded five patents |
---|
21 | 21 | | related to his work in tomography and chemical reactions; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Austin Jaycees in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | mid-1970s, and he served as president and chief executive officer |
---|
24 | 24 | | of several Austin-based companies, including Scientific |
---|
25 | 25 | | Measurement Systems and Columbia Scientific Industries; he was |
---|
26 | 26 | | an avid golfer and a member of Great Hills Country Club; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was a loving husband to Glenda Ricker |
---|
28 | 28 | | Taylor, and they were blessed with two children and three |
---|
29 | 29 | | grandchildren; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, He was known for his kind and gentle nature, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | he was admired by his colleagues and friends; he leaves behind |
---|
32 | 32 | | memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged |
---|
33 | 33 | | to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Morris Chapman Taylor; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
40 | 40 | | memory of Morris Taylor. |
