55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Morris Chapman Taylor,
77 who died on February 17, 2015, at the age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, Morris Taylor was born on May 28, 1939, in Fulton,
99 Kentucky; he attended high school in South Fulton, Tennessee, and
1010 earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of
1111 Tennessee, Knoxville and a master's degree in applied physics
1212 from the University of California, Los Angeles; and
1313 WHEREAS, He moved to Texas and completed his doctoral
1414 studies in nuclear physics at Rice University; he went on to earn
1515 his senior postdoctoral fellow appointment at M. D. Anderson
1616 Cancer Center, where he researched accelerator production of
1717 isotopes and both therapeutic and diagnostic radiation; and
1818 WHEREAS, A leading researcher in his field, Mr. Taylor
1919 published more than 25 articles in national magazines and
2020 professional publications, and he was awarded five patents
2121 related to his work in tomography and chemical reactions; and
2222 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Austin Jaycees in the
2323 mid-1970s, and he served as president and chief executive officer
2424 of several Austin-based companies, including Scientific
2525 Measurement Systems and Columbia Scientific Industries; he was
2626 an avid golfer and a member of Great Hills Country Club; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was a loving husband to Glenda Ricker
2828 Taylor, and they were blessed with two children and three
2929 grandchildren; and
3030 WHEREAS, He was known for his kind and gentle nature, and
3131 he was admired by his colleagues and friends; he leaves behind
3232 memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged
3333 to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Morris Chapman Taylor; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Morris Taylor.
