55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
66 of Austin in mourning the loss of Brett Aaron Aycock, who died
77 February 24, 2015, at the age of 33; and
88 WHEREAS, Brett Aycock was born on June 7, 1981, in Oklahoma
99 City; he moved to Austin as a young boy, and he attended Anderson
1010 High School, where he excelled in both academics and athletics;
1111 he began studying criminal justice at The University of Texas at
1212 Austin, but he was inspired to set a new course for his life after
1313 the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; and
1414 WHEREAS, Sergeant Aycock enlisted in the United States
1515 Army in 2003 and served with distinction as a member of the
1616 Reconnaissance/Scout Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters
1717 Company, 1st Battalion Airborne, 503rd Infantry Regiment; he
1818 completed air assault training in South Korea and was deployed to
1919 Kuwait and then to Iraq, where he was wounded in action while
2020 serving in Ramadi; he was decorated with a Purple Heart and was
2121 awarded a number of medals in honor of his courageous service,
2222 including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement
2323 Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge; and
2424 WHEREAS, After his service, he managed large construction
2525 projects and worked as a consultant on military techniques and as
2626 an actor for the television production of "My Generation"; he
2727 also dedicated his time to serving as an advocate for his fellow
2828 veterans; and
2929 WHEREAS, He was a skilled artist and craftsman who was
3030 known for his many talents, his kind nature, and his engaging
3131 sense of humor; he was a true patriot and an American hero who was
3232 respected and admired by many, and he leaves behind memories that
3333 will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his
3434 life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Brett Aaron Aycock; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Brett Aaron Aycock.
