| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Licensed athletic trainers have long provided |

| 3 | 3 | | quality health care to individuals involved in sports and other |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | physical activities, and National Athletic Training Month in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | March 2015 provides a fitting opportunity to honor these notable |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | health care professionals; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, Texas became the first state to enact a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | law requiring athletic trainers to meet specific standards of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | education, competency, and ethics, and today all such |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | practitioners working in Texas are licensed and regulated by the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Athletic trainers offer an extensive range of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | services, from preventing injuries before games and sporting |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | events to recognizing and treating injuries after they occur, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | under the direction of a physician; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Certified athletic trainers work in a variety of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | settings, and secondary schools, colleges and universities, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | professional and amateur athletic organizations, clinics and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hospitals, and corporations and industries all benefit from |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | their expertise; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | which was established in 2001, endeavors to promote, enhance, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | advance the athletic training profession in the Lone Star State; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the organization offers a number of valuable services to its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | members and strives to be the voice of thousands of licensed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | athletic trainers statewide; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The association works with the Office of Acquired |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Brain Injury and the Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provide brain injury education, awareness, prevention, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | service referral and coordination; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The men and women who work as athletic trainers |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | play a positive role in the lives of countless Texas residents, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and they indeed merit special commendation for their efforts and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 2015 as National Athletic |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Training Month in Texas and extend thanks and best wishes to the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | state's athletic trainers. |
