11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 367
22 WHEREAS, Licensed athletic trainers have long provided
33 quality health care to individuals involved in sports and other
44 physical activities, and National Athletic Training Month in
55 March 2015 provides a fitting opportunity to honor these notable
66 health care professionals; and
77 WHEREAS, In 1971, Texas became the first state to enact a
88 law requiring athletic trainers to meet specific standards of
99 education, competency, and ethics, and today all such
1010 practitioners working in Texas are licensed and regulated by the
1111 Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers; and
1212 WHEREAS, Athletic trainers offer an extensive range of
1313 services, from preventing injuries before games and sporting
1414 events to recognizing and treating injuries after they occur,
1515 under the direction of a physician; and
1616 WHEREAS, Certified athletic trainers work in a variety of
1717 settings, and secondary schools, colleges and universities,
1818 professional and amateur athletic organizations, clinics and
1919 hospitals, and corporations and industries all benefit from
2020 their expertise; and
2121 WHEREAS, The Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association,
2222 which was established in 2001, endeavors to promote, enhance, and
2323 advance the athletic training profession in the Lone Star State;
2424 the organization offers a number of valuable services to its
2525 members and strives to be the voice of thousands of licensed
2626 athletic trainers statewide; and
2727 WHEREAS, The association works with the Office of Acquired
2828 Brain Injury and the Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council to
2929 provide brain injury education, awareness, prevention, and
3030 service referral and coordination; and
3131 WHEREAS, The men and women who work as athletic trainers
3232 play a positive role in the lives of countless Texas residents,
3333 and they indeed merit special commendation for their efforts and
3434 achievements; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3636 Legislature, hereby recognize March 2015 as National Athletic
3737 Training Month in Texas and extend thanks and best wishes to the
3838 state's athletic trainers.
