6 | 6 | | comfort the loved ones of Edward J. Parnell Jr. of San Antonio, who |

7 | 7 | | passed away on February 8, 2015, at the age of 78; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on June 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Pennsylvania, Ed Parnell was the son of Edward J. Parnell Sr. and |
---|
10 | 10 | | Margaret Ragin Parnell; he joined the United States Navy in 1954, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and, over the course of a career that spanned two decades, served |
---|
12 | 12 | | on the USS Ainsworth, Bronstein, Huse, and Kyne and at naval |
---|
13 | 13 | | facilities along the East Coast; he retired in 1974 as a senior |
---|
14 | 14 | | chief petty officer; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Active with the Non-Commissioned Officers |
---|
16 | 16 | | Association, Mr. Parnell served as its executive vice president |
---|
17 | 17 | | and as a member of its board of directors; he also worked as a |
---|
18 | 18 | | veterans benefits counselor at the United States Department of |
---|
19 | 19 | | Veterans Affairs, from which he retired in 2001; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Parnell distinguished himself through his |
---|
21 | 21 | | efforts in behalf of members of the military and their |
---|
22 | 22 | | families; he served as president of the San Antonio Chief Petty |
---|
23 | 23 | | Officers Association, as vice president of the Texas Coalition |
---|
24 | 24 | | of Veterans Organizations, and as a life member of the American |
---|
25 | 25 | | Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fleet Reserve |
---|
26 | 26 | | Association; he also contributed to the greater community |
---|
27 | 27 | | through his involvement with the Hill Country Chapter of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Meeting Professionals International and the Fort Sam Houston |
---|
29 | 29 | | Optimist Club; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Parnell enjoyed the |
---|
31 | 31 | | love and support of his wife of 58 years, Pamela Jeanette, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | he took great pride in their three children, Donna, Edward, and |
---|
33 | 33 | | Maureen; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, his country, and his |
---|
35 | 35 | | fellow servicemen and women, Edward Parnell leaves behind a record |
---|
36 | 36 | | of good works that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate |

37 | 37 | | enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward J. |

40 | 40 | | Parnell Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |
