55 WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may help
66 comfort the loved ones of Edward J. Parnell Jr. of San Antonio, who
77 passed away on February 8, 2015, at the age of 78; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on June 22, 1936, in Philadelphia,
99 Pennsylvania, Ed Parnell was the son of Edward J. Parnell Sr. and
1010 Margaret Ragin Parnell; he joined the United States Navy in 1954,
1111 and, over the course of a career that spanned two decades, served
1212 on the USS Ainsworth, Bronstein, Huse, and Kyne and at naval
1313 facilities along the East Coast; he retired in 1974 as a senior
1414 chief petty officer; and
1515 WHEREAS, Active with the Non-Commissioned Officers
1616 Association, Mr. Parnell served as its executive vice president
1717 and as a member of its board of directors; he also worked as a
1818 veterans benefits counselor at the United States Department of
1919 Veterans Affairs, from which he retired in 2001; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Parnell distinguished himself through his
2121 efforts in behalf of members of the military and their
2222 families; he served as president of the San Antonio Chief Petty
2323 Officers Association, as vice president of the Texas Coalition
2424 of Veterans Organizations, and as a life member of the American
2525 Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fleet Reserve
2626 Association; he also contributed to the greater community
2727 through his involvement with the Hill Country Chapter of
2828 Meeting Professionals International and the Fort Sam Houston
2929 Optimist Club; and
3030 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Parnell enjoyed the
3131 love and support of his wife of 58 years, Pamela Jeanette, and
3232 he took great pride in their three children, Donna, Edward, and
3333 Maureen; and
3434 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, his country, and his
3535 fellow servicemen and women, Edward Parnell leaves behind a record
3636 of good works that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate
3737 enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3939 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward J.
4040 Parnell Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
4141 family: to his wife, Pamela Parnell; to his children, Donna
4242 Williams and her husband, Rhiny, Edward J. Parnell III, and
4343 Maureen Wagner; to his grandchildren, Theodore Williams and his
4444 wife, Jacqueline, Tamara Williams, and Blair Wagner; to his
4545 great-granddaughter, Penelope Williams; to his siblings, Sandra
4646 Saunders, Debra Goode, Wayne Parnell, Ronald Parnell, and
4747 Carolyn Sandford; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
4848 it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5050 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5151 this day, it do so in memory of Ed Parnell.
