3 | 3 | | University are gathering in Austin on March 24, 2015, in |

4 | 4 | | celebration of Tarleton State University Day at the State |

5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |

6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In 1899, the school was established as John |
---|
7 | 7 | | Tarleton College with an endowment from a Stephenville |
---|
8 | 8 | | landowner; it was incorporated into the Texas A&M University |
---|
9 | 9 | | System in 1917 and served as a two-year institution until 1959, |
---|
10 | 10 | | when it extended its curriculum to the junior and senior levels; |
---|
11 | 11 | | the present-day name was adopted in 1973; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Tarleton State University today has campuses in |
---|
13 | 13 | | Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, and Midlothian, and its |
---|
14 | 14 | | enrollment surpasses 11,000; it offers nearly 100 bachelor's and |
---|
15 | 15 | | master's degrees, as well as a doctorate in education, and |
---|
16 | 16 | | maintains a student-faculty ratio of 20:1; while benefiting from |
---|
17 | 17 | | the resources of a major public university, students also enjoy |
---|
18 | 18 | | the personal attention, warmth, and faculty interaction typical |
---|
19 | 19 | | of a smaller college; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Long known for excellence in agriculture, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Tarleton State University has the third-largest agricultural |
---|
22 | 22 | | program in the nation among non-land-grant universities, and it |
---|
23 | 23 | | is among the top producers of agricultural education teachers for |
---|
24 | 24 | | Texas schools; its education graduates have an impressive 98 |
---|
25 | 25 | | percent certification pass rate; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Tarleton's research centers include the Southwest |

27 | 27 | | RegionalDairyCenterandtherenownedTexasInstitutefor |
---|
28 | 28 | | Applied Environmental Research, which plays a leading role in |
---|
29 | 29 | | national and international scholarship on water quality issues; |
---|
30 | 30 | | further demonstrating institutional strength in the sciences, |
---|
31 | 31 | | the school's Rocket Club has won top-five honors in two |
---|
32 | 32 | | international competitions sponsored by professional |
---|
33 | 33 | | associations; moreover, the institution's state-of-the-art |
---|
34 | 34 | | observatory is the largest in the state dedicated to |

35 | 35 | | undergraduate education and research; and |

36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A forward-looking institution with a long history |
---|
37 | 37 | | and rich traditions, Tarleton State University continues to |

38 | 38 | | provide its students with an outstanding education and a solid |

39 | 39 | | foundation for achievement; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 24, 2015, as Tarleton State |

42 | 42 | | University Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to |
