1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 398
2	2	WHEREAS, On September 26, 2014, forty-three college students
3	3	from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School in Ayotzinapa,
4	4	Guerrero, Mexico, disappeared in Iguala, Mexico; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Ayotzinapa students were mostly teenagers and
6	6	young men from poor, rural, campesino families who were training
7	7	to become rural teachers and serve the indigenous and
8	8	disadvantaged in their community; and
9	9	WHEREAS, It has been estimated that 25,000 to 26,000 people
10	10	have disappeared in Mexico since 2006, and those who disappear
11	11	often include the very vulnerable, such as the poor, migrants,
12	12	women, and children; and
13	13	WHEREAS, There has been an international outcry regarding
14	14	the missing students in Mexico from, among others, the United
15	15	Nations, the Parliament of the United Kingdom, the European
16	16	Parliament, and the international human rights community; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Parents of the Ayotzinapa students are visiting
18	18	Austin on March 18, 19, and 20, 2015, as part of the Caravana 43
19	19	and will also visit several other cities in the United States; and
20	20	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas adds its voice
21	21	to those in the international community who are deeply
22	22	concerned about the missing college students from Mexico;
23	23	now, therefore, be it
24	24	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
25	25	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the grieving
26	26	families of the missing students from Ayotzinapa; and, be it
27	27	further
28	28	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
29	29	the families of those students as an expression of deepest
30	30	sympathy from the Texas Senate.
