| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Charlie Betts, who is retiring after 18 years of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | outstanding service as executive director of the Downtown Austin |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Alliance; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Betts is a third-generation Austinite and a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | graduate of The University of Texas at Austin; he served the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | nation with distinction as a member of the United States Army; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Downtown Austin |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Alliance has played a vital role in the revitalization of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Austin's central community; during his tenure, the number of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | downtown residents has more than doubled, and the number of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | downtown employees has grown from 67,000 in 1993 to more than |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 123,000; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Betts has been a tireless advocate for such |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | initiatives as the Waller Creek Tunnel, the Downtown Community |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Court, and the Dell Medical School; he has been noted for his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | belief in the importance of historic preservation, and he was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | instrumental in the drafting of the Historic Landmark |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Ordinance; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary administrator, Charlie Betts is |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | respected and admired by the citizens of Austin, and his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | leadership as the executive director of the Downtown Austin |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Alliance will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Charlie Betts on his exceptional |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | service to the people of Austin as executive director of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Downtown Austin Alliance and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
