| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sister Carolyn Kosub, Sister Emily Jocson, and Sister |

| 4 | 4 | | Fatima Santiago, Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Mary, who have been named the recipients of Catholic Extension's |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 2014 Lumen Christi Award; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is bestowed by Catholic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Extension to priests, women religious, or laypersons working in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | America's mission dioceses who have devoted their lives to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | serving the poor in the nation's most underprivileged areas; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Sister Kosub, Sister |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Jocson, and Sister Santiago have served the people of the Pueblo |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | de Palmas colonia near Peñitas; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Their work has included the 2004 creation of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Proyecto Desarrollo Humano, an outreach center dedicated to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | health, social services, education, and evangelization; the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | center provides the colonia's residents with such facilities as |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | classroom space, a computer lab, and a medical and dental |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | clinic; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 2009, these dedicated women secured donations |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and supervised the construction of Saint Ann Church, which became |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | home to the newest parish in the Diocese of Brownsville; their |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | compassion, their strength, and their enthusiasm for helping |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | others is truly an inspiration to all; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sister Carolyn Kosub, Sister Emily |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Jocson, and Sister Fatima Santiago of the Missionary Sisters of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Immaculate Heart of Mary on their dedication to serving the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | poor and transforming lives in one of the most marginalized areas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of Texas and extend congratulations to them on being selected by |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Catholic Extension for a Lumen Christi Award; and, be it further |
