1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 426
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the Mexican and Spanish students who are enrolled at The
4	4	University of Texas at Austin and welcome them on March 25, 2015, to
5	5	the 14th annual reception honoring them at the Texas Senate; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Students from Mexico have studied at The
7	7	University of Texas at Austin since 1940; the university and
8	8	Mexico have historic ties due to shared academic endeavors, and
9	9	the university's Graduate School of Business has developed joint
10	10	degree programs with Mexican institutions; and
11	11	WHEREAS, In 1991, the Texas Legislature established a
12	12	tuition assistance program to encourage students from Mexico
13	13	with limited financial resources to study in our state, thus
14	14	making Texas a responsive educational partner to Mexico; there
15	15	are now 583 students from Mexico enrolled at the university; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Universities in Spain and The University of Texas
17	17	have had ongoing relationships since before the 1980s; there are
18	18	33 students from Spain enrolled at The University of Texas; with
19	19	89 students from Texas studying in Mexico and 447 students from
20	20	Texas studying in Spain, Spain is now the country of choice for
21	21	University of Texas students studying abroad; and
22	22	WHEREAS, The generosity of BBVA Compass and their active
23	23	participation in the university's community attest to their
24	24	commitment to the university, and the school's distinguished
25	25	record of educating Mexican and Spanish students is indicative of
26	26	the successful collaboration between Texas and Mexico and Texas
27	27	and Spain; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
29	29	Legislature, hereby commend BBVA Compass and the Mexican and
30	30	Spanish students at The University of Texas at Austin for their
31	31	special and unique contributions to the university and to our
32	32	state; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
34	34	expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
