| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating March 30, 2015, as |

| 4 | 4 | | Baylor Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University was established February 1, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1845, by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; it is |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the oldest continually operating university in the state; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This private Christian university and nationally |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | ranked research institution provides a vibrant campus community |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to some 15,000 students; it offers 141 undergraduate degrees, 75 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | graduate degrees, 37 doctoral degrees, and a juris doctor in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | addition to a wide array of preprofessional tracks and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | specialized academic opportunities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University is also home to a variety of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | exceptional athletic programs; its football team recently won |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the school's first outright conference championship since 1980, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and the women's basketball team continued its dominance with its |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | fourth consecutive sweep of regular-season and conference |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | tournament titles; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The university produced the top graduate success |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | rate score in the Big 12 Conference in the 2013-2014 academic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | year; a school-record 213 Baylor University student-athletes |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | were selected to Academic All-Big 12 teams and a school-record |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 678 students were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll; and |

| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The school's combination of interdisciplinary |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | research and a faculty committed to teaching and scholarship have |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | served to create an institution with an international reputation |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | for educational excellence; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 84th Legislature, hereby commend Baylor University on its |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | commitment to educating men and women for worldwide leadership |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and service and extend to its students, faculty, and staff best |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | wishes for a memorable Baylor Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
