44 James Edwin Russell Jr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of James Edwin Russell Jr., who died
77 February 28, 2015, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Jim Russell was born on August 3, 1932, in
99 Mauldin, Massachusetts, to James and Mabel Russell; he grew up in
1010 Floresville, where he graduated from high school; and
1111 WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's
1212 degree from Baylor University before serving as an officer in the
1313 United States Air Force; and
1414 WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Russell began a
1515 distinguished 42-year career in education as a science and
1616 mathematics teacher in Temple; he went on to serve as a teacher
1717 and an administrator in Austin, Brownfield, and New Braunfels; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Russell continued to expand his knowledge and
1919 expertise in his field by earning a doctorate in school
2020 administration at The University of Texas at Austin; he concluded
2121 his career by serving as assistant superintendent of personnel
2222 with the Hays Consolidated Independent School District; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Russell was blessed with a wonderful family;
2424 he married Bonnie Frances Miller in 1961, and they enjoyed 29
2525 years of marriage together; his children, Jimmy and Laurie, were
2626 a source of much pride and joy, as were his beagles, who brought
2727 him much happiness throughout his life; and
2828 WHEREAS, His active lifestyle included a variety of
2929 pursuits; he enjoyed basketball, tennis, waterskiing, bowling,
3030 and scuba diving, and he was a talented singer who performed in
3131 church choirs, barbershop groups, and his gospel quintet; and
3232 WHEREAS, A man of strength, wisdom, and kindness, he gave
3333 unselfishly to others, and his many accomplishments and his
3434 enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
3535 forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
3636 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
3737 behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
3838 many friends; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
4040 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4141 family of James Edwin Russell Jr.; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4343 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4444 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4545 memory of James Edwin Russell Jr.
