4	4	James Edwin Russell Jr.
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of James Edwin Russell Jr., who died
7	7	February 28, 2015, at the age of 82; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Jim Russell was born on August 3, 1932, in
9	9	Mauldin, Massachusetts, to James and Mabel Russell; he grew up in
10	10	Floresville, where he graduated from high school; and
11	11	WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's
12	12	degree from Baylor University before serving as an officer in the
13	13	United States Air Force; and
14	14	WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Russell began a
15	15	distinguished 42-year career in education as a science and
16	16	mathematics teacher in Temple; he went on to serve as a teacher
17	17	and an administrator in Austin, Brownfield, and New Braunfels; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Mr. Russell continued to expand his knowledge and
19	19	expertise in his field by earning a doctorate in school
20	20	administration at The University of Texas at Austin; he concluded
21	21	his career by serving as assistant superintendent of personnel
22	22	with the Hays Consolidated Independent School District; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Mr. Russell was blessed with a wonderful family;
24	24	he married Bonnie Frances Miller in 1961, and they enjoyed 29
25	25	years of marriage together; his children, Jimmy and Laurie, were
26	26	a source of much pride and joy, as were his beagles, who brought
27	27	him much happiness throughout his life; and
28	28	WHEREAS, His active lifestyle included a variety of
29	29	pursuits; he enjoyed basketball, tennis, waterskiing, bowling,
30	30	and scuba diving, and he was a talented singer who performed in
31	31	church choirs, barbershop groups, and his gospel quintet; and
32	32	WHEREAS, A man of strength, wisdom, and kindness, he gave
33	33	unselfishly to others, and his many accomplishments and his
34	34	enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
35	35	forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
36	36	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
37	37	behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
38	38	many friends; now, therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
40	40	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
41	41	family of James Edwin Russell Jr.; and, be it further
42	42	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
43	43	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
44	44	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
45	45	memory of James Edwin Russell Jr.
