SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 436 WHEREAS, The San Antonio Music Teachers Association is marking its 100th anniversary in 2015; and WHEREAS, Founded on March 24, 1915, by a group of 19 educators, the association has been affiliated since its inception with the Music Teachers National Association and the Texas Music Teachers Association; its membership had grown to about 150 by 1919, when it published its first yearbook and directory; today, its members serve at all levels of the education system, and they perform for churches, synagogues, and the general public; and WHEREAS, The organization has sponsored numerous activities for teachers and students, including lecture series, judged auditions, performances, and competitions; in 1988, group members raised money to establish the San Antonio Music Teachers Association Education Fund, which has awarded 36 scholarships to students over the years and has also provided study grants for teachers; and WHEREAS, For the past century, members of the San Antonio Music Teachers Association have worked tirelessly to elevate standards of education and musicianship, and their endeavors have heightened appreciation for the ways in which the arts improve the quality of life in a community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby recognize March 31, 2015, as San Antonio Music Teachers Association Centennial Day and extend to association members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
