| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The San Antonio Music Teachers Association is |

| 3 | 3 | | marking its 100th anniversary in 2015; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Founded on March 24, 1915, by a group of 19 |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | educators, the association has been affiliated since its |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | inception with the Music Teachers National Association and the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Texas Music Teachers Association; its membership had grown to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | about 150 by 1919, when it published its first yearbook and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | directory; today, its members serve at all levels of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | education system, and they perform for churches, synagogues, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the general public; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The organization has sponsored numerous |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | activities for teachers and students, including lecture series, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | judged auditions, performances, and competitions; in 1988, group |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | members raised money to establish the San Antonio Music Teachers |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Association Education Fund, which has awarded 36 scholarships to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students over the years and has also provided study grants for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | teachers; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, members of the San Antonio |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Music Teachers Association have worked tirelessly to elevate |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | standards of education and musicianship, and their endeavors |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | have heightened appreciation for the ways in which the arts |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | improve the quality of life in a community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 31, 2015, as San Antonio |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Music Teachers Association Centennial Day and extend to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | association members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
