| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, On March 29, 2014, Vietnam Veterans Day, |

| 3 | 3 | | citizens, veterans, and Texas leaders gathered on the Capitol |

| 4 | 4 | | grounds for the dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Monument; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The monument stands as a permanent tribute to the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | service and sacrifice of the thousands of Texans who took part in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the Vietnam War; more than 3,400 brave servicemen from Texas made |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the ultimate sacrifice in the war, and 105 Texans remain missing |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in action today; seventeen Texas heroes earned the Congressional |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Medal of Honor for their distinguished service during the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | conflict; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Construction of the monument was authorized by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 36 during the 79th |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Legislative Session, and the project was completed through the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | diligent work of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Committee; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The monument sits in the dappled shade of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Capitol's northeast lawn, where visitors can reflect on and honor |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | every Texan who courageously served during one of the longest |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | wars in American history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend all who contributed to the planning |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument and organized its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | dedication one year ago and pay tribute to the patriotic sons and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | daughters of the Lone Star State who served in the Vietnam War; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
