| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Don Nelson, who is retiring from KTRK-TV Channel 13 |

| 4 | 4 | | Eyewitness News after 30 years of outstanding service as a |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | reporter; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Don Nelson began working with the Houston affiliate |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of the American Broadcasting Company in November of 1975; he served |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | as a cohost for Dialing for Dollars, which later became the popular |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Good Morning America; he soon became recognized as a versatile |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | talent by the station and was called upon to cover many of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | city's news events; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Nelson has cooked live on the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | set, interviewed hundreds of celebrities, and helped keep viewers |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | informed about community events; in addition to his local coverage, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | he has hosted numerous special programs that provided him with the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | opportunity to broadcast from locations around the globe; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He has helped raise millions of dollars by hosting |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | events for local and national charities, such as the Ronald |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | McDonald House, the American Cancer Society, and the Assistance |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | League of Houston; he has also been an integral part of dozens of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | programs benefiting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Don Nelson is a beloved Houstonian who is admired |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | by his colleagues and residents throughout the city for his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | conscientious coverage of the news; he is an example of the very |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | best among news reporters, and his presence at KTRK-TV will be |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Don Nelson on his contributions to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the City of Houston as a first-rate newscaster and extend to him |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
