| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, BikeTexas represents thousands of people who ride |

| 3 | 3 | | bikes in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Millions of Texans ride bicycles for fitness, |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | recreation, and transportation each year; bicycling provides |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | mobility options for families, creative class workers, and aging |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | populations; bicycling has been identified as an activity that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | could reduce the cost of health care; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bicycle and accessory sales contribute more than |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | $20 million annually in sporting goods sales taxes, which is the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | primary source of funding for our state parks system; people who |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | ride bicycles contribute more than $50 million per year to Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | charities; charity bicycle events and bicycle tourism have a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | positive impact on local economies; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Engineering advances in protected bike lanes |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | offer greater safety to those who ride bicycles; bike lanes near |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | businesses have been proven to increase revenues; bike trails |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | increase nearby residential property values; mountain bike |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | ranches provide a nonagricultural source of rural income; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Bicycle advocates have worked hard for over two |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | decades to enhance the safety of Texas roadways for all road |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | users, and it is indeed fitting to recognize this outstanding |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | work; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend BikeTexas for its ongoing efforts |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and its dedication to improving bicycle safety and extend sincere |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for continued success to its board of directors, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | staff, members, and volunteers; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
