| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board on |

| 4 | 4 | | the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | was established by the Texas Legislature in 1939 in order to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | address the agricultural practices and problems of wind and water |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | erosion that led to the Dust Bowl devastation of Texas and the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Great Plains in the 1930s; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This landmark legislation called for the creation |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of soil and water conservation districts; the initiative was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | designed to be controlled by farmers and ranchers on a voluntary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | basis and to implement measures that best suited the specific |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | needs of individual landowners; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, the board administers a number of key |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | programs that provide technical and financial assistance to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | landowners and land managers; among the results of these efforts |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | are enhanced soil resources, more sustainable agriculture, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | improved water quality, and higher-quality wildlife habitat; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has had a profound impact on the preservation and protection of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | our state's natural resources, and it is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | special recognition for its exceptional work; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas State Soil and Water |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Conservation Board on its long-term efforts to develop the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | state's resources and extend to its management and staff best |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wishes for a memorable 75th anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the board as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
