11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 455
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Eleanor Nelson Conrad, who has been named a 2015
44 Distinguished Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools
55 Foundation; and
66 WHEREAS, Eleanor Conrad is a 1942 graduate of Champaign
77 High School who has dedicated more than 50 years to public
88 service through her exemplary work in the fields of education,
99 social justice, and the arts; and
1010 WHEREAS, Her involvement in social justice issues can be
1111 traced to the 1950s, when she was an active participant in lunch
1212 counter sit-ins; in addition, she was the first African American
1313 to be elected foreman of the Dallas County Grand Jury; and
1414 WHEREAS, She has served on the Texas State Board of
1515 Education, where her hard work and determination had a positive
1616 impact on public education in Texas; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mrs. Conrad has been an important voice for
1818 progress and equal justice, and it is truly fitting that she
1919 receive special recognition for her many achievements; now,
2020 therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2222 Legislature, hereby commend Eleanor Nelson Conrad on her many
2323 contributions to her profession and her community and extend
2424 congratulations to her on being named a 2015 Distinguished
2525 Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation; and,
2626 be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2828 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
