| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Eleanor Nelson Conrad, who has been named a 2015 |

| 4 | 4 | | Distinguished Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Foundation; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Eleanor Conrad is a 1942 graduate of Champaign |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | High School who has dedicated more than 50 years to public |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | service through her exemplary work in the fields of education, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | social justice, and the arts; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Her involvement in social justice issues can be |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | traced to the 1950s, when she was an active participant in lunch |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | counter sit-ins; in addition, she was the first African American |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to be elected foreman of the Dallas County Grand Jury; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, She has served on the Texas State Board of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Education, where her hard work and determination had a positive |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | impact on public education in Texas; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Conrad has been an important voice for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | progress and equal justice, and it is truly fitting that she |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | receive special recognition for her many achievements; now, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Eleanor Nelson Conrad on her many |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | contributions to her profession and her community and extend |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | congratulations to her on being named a 2015 Distinguished |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Alumni honoree by the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation; and, |
