SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46 In Memory of Elva Longoria Cortez WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of Elva Longoria Cortez, who died December 31, 2014, at the age of 69; and WHEREAS, Elva Cortez was an exemplary citizen, and she was admired throughout the community for her many kind works and her remarkable generosity; and WHEREAS, She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was dedicated to her family and to the principles of her faith; and WHEREAS, While serving as the First Lady of McAllen, she supported her husband, Richard Cortez, in his leadership endeavors, and she served on the boards of the Mayor's Prayer Luncheon and the Salvation Army; she and her husband raised four children; and WHEREAS, She represented the City of McAllen with dignity and humility; she was a compassionate woman, and she and her daughters and grandchildren delivered toys to needy families in Hidalgo County during Christmas holidays; and WHEREAS, Elva Cortez gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Elva Longoria Cortez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elva Longoria Cortez.
