| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of McAllen in mourning the loss of Elva Longoria Cortez, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | December 31, 2014, at the age of 69; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Elva Cortez was an exemplary citizen, and she was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | admired throughout the community for her many kind works and her |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | remarkable generosity; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | was dedicated to her family and to the principles of her faith; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, While serving as the First Lady of McAllen, she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | supported her husband, Richard Cortez, in his leadership |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | endeavors, and she served on the boards of the Mayor's Prayer |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Luncheon and the Salvation Army; she and her husband raised four |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | children; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, She represented the City of McAllen with dignity |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and humility; she was a compassionate woman, and she and her |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | daughters and grandchildren delivered toys to needy families in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Hidalgo County during Christmas holidays; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Elva Cortez gave unselfishly of her time to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | forgotten by those who knew her; she leaves behind memories that |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | will long be cherished by her family and many friends; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | family of Elva Longoria Cortez; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
