2	2	WHEREAS, Representatives of the City of Plano, the Plano
3	3	Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District
4	4	are visiting Austin on March 31 and April 1, 2015, to take part in
5	5	Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Boasting a population of nearly 275,000, this
7	7	self-styled City of Excellence has garnered multiple accolades
8	8	in recent years for its prosperity and quality of life; in 2014,
9	9	it was ranked as the third best-run city in America by USA Today
10	10	and the 24/7 Wall Street online financial news service, while
11	11	Time magazine cited it as one of the 10 healthiest places to live
12	12	in America; Movoto Real Estate and Research has named Plano as
13	13	the safest city with a population over 250,000 and as the
14	14	fourth-safest city overall, and the WalletHub consumer networking
15	15	site ranked it first on its 2014 list of the best cities for
16	16	families; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Contributing greatly to the city's success is the
18	18	Plano Chamber of Commerce, which is committed to maximizing
19	19	business development and economic growth through advocacy,
20	20	education, innovation, and collaboration; the chamber has helped
21	21	to make Plano home to many leading global corporations, including
22	22	six Fortune 1000 companies, by promoting the city's outstanding
23	23	workforce, competitive business climate, world-class business
24	24	parks, and accessibility; its efforts have earned the Plano Chamber a
25	25	5-star accreditation from the United States Chamber of Commerce,
26	26	placing it among the top one percent of chambers of commerce in
27	27	the nation; and
28	28	WHEREAS, The Plano Independent School District is likewise
29	29	benefiting the city and area residents, with the 6,700 members of
30	30	its faculty and staff working to prepare the district's 55,000
31	31	students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; the
32	32	teachers of the district average more than 11 years of
33	33	experience, and more than a third of them hold master's degrees;
34	34	with a graduation rate close to 96 percent, the Plano Independent
35	35	School District is one of a select few districts in the United
36	36	States and Canada that have been named to the annual Advanced
37	37	Placement District Honor Roll, and 23 of its schools have been
38	38	named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the United States
39	39	Department of Education; the district has also been named one of
40	40	the 100 best in the nation in music education by several national
41	41	surveys, and in 2014, 78 of the district's students were National
42	42	Merit Scholarship semifinalists; and
43	43	WHEREAS, A true Lone Star success story, Plano's reputation
44	44	as a wonderful city in which to work, play, and raise a family
45	45	grows every day, and the City of Plano, the Plano Chamber of
46	46	Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District are helping
47	47	to build an even brighter and more prosperous future for their
48	48	thriving community; now, therefore, be it
49	49	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
50	50	Legislature, hereby recognize March 31 and April 1, 2015, as
51	51	Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol and extend to the
52	52	visiting delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and
53	53	enjoyable stay in Austin.
