11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 463
22 WHEREAS, Representatives of the City of Plano, the Plano
33 Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District
44 are visiting Austin on March 31 and April 1, 2015, to take part in
55 Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol; and
66 WHEREAS, Boasting a population of nearly 275,000, this
77 self-styled City of Excellence has garnered multiple accolades
88 in recent years for its prosperity and quality of life; in 2014,
99 it was ranked as the third best-run city in America by USA Today
1010 and the 24/7 Wall Street online financial news service, while
1111 Time magazine cited it as one of the 10 healthiest places to live
1212 in America; Movoto Real Estate and Research has named Plano as
1313 the safest city with a population over 250,000 and as the
1414 fourth-safest city overall, and the WalletHub consumer networking
1515 site ranked it first on its 2014 list of the best cities for
1616 families; and
1717 WHEREAS, Contributing greatly to the city's success is the
1818 Plano Chamber of Commerce, which is committed to maximizing
1919 business development and economic growth through advocacy,
2020 education, innovation, and collaboration; the chamber has helped
2121 to make Plano home to many leading global corporations, including
2222 six Fortune 1000 companies, by promoting the city's outstanding
2323 workforce, competitive business climate, world-class business
2424 parks, and accessibility; its efforts have earned the Plano Chamber a
2525 5-star accreditation from the United States Chamber of Commerce,
2626 placing it among the top one percent of chambers of commerce in
2727 the nation; and
2828 WHEREAS, The Plano Independent School District is likewise
2929 benefiting the city and area residents, with the 6,700 members of
3030 its faculty and staff working to prepare the district's 55,000
3131 students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; the
3232 teachers of the district average more than 11 years of
3333 experience, and more than a third of them hold master's degrees;
3434 with a graduation rate close to 96 percent, the Plano Independent
3535 School District is one of a select few districts in the United
3636 States and Canada that have been named to the annual Advanced
3737 Placement District Honor Roll, and 23 of its schools have been
3838 named Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the United States
3939 Department of Education; the district has also been named one of
4040 the 100 best in the nation in music education by several national
4141 surveys, and in 2014, 78 of the district's students were National
4242 Merit Scholarship semifinalists; and
4343 WHEREAS, A true Lone Star success story, Plano's reputation
4444 as a wonderful city in which to work, play, and raise a family
4545 grows every day, and the City of Plano, the Plano Chamber of
4646 Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District are helping
4747 to build an even brighter and more prosperous future for their
4848 thriving community; now, therefore, be it
4949 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
5050 Legislature, hereby recognize March 31 and April 1, 2015, as
5151 Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol and extend to the
5252 visiting delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and
5353 enjoyable stay in Austin.
