| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join |

| 3 | 3 | | the citizens of Hopkins County and Texans across the state in |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | celebrating March 31, 2015, as Hopkins County Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Home to a majestic county courthouse built by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | master architect James Riely Gordon, Hopkins County possesses a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | history rich in tradition; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The county seat of Sulphur Springs is on the site |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | where free-flowing springs of sulphur water and fresh water once |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | existed; these springs drew Native Americans to the area for many |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | years, and after the arrival of Anglo settlers, people from all |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | over the nation were attracted to the springs because of their |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | curative power; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The history of Sulphur Springs has provided many |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | testaments to the importance of the area to our state; the city was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | home to the Hampton House, which is said to have been the hiding |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | place of Confederate documents and exiles, and to many pioneer |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | newspapers and the first steam-powered factory in the region; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Following World War II, Sulphur Springs initiated a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | new city government, which provided such amenities as a city park, a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | swimming pool, a rodeo arena, and baseball and football stadiums; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, Hopkins County is a place where |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hard-working citizens are dedicated to making the area an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | outstanding place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Hopkins County are rightly proud |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of the county's history and the many contributions its people |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | have made to the growth and progress of our state; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Hopkins County on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | their many contributions to the rich legacy of our state and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | extend to them best wishes for a memorable Hopkins County Day at |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | honor of this special day. |
