| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Testicular Cancer Foundation for its work on |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | raising awareness of testicular cancer and emphasizing the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | importance of early and regular screenings for the disease; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Testicular cancer is most common in young or |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | middle-aged men between the ages of 15 and 35; each year, nearly |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 9,000 new cases occur in the United States, and approximately 380 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | men in the United States die from the disease; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, When the presence of testicular cancer is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | restricted to the testicle, a single surgical procedure can |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | usually treat the disease fully, but if the cancer has spread to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | additional tissue, patients often face extensive treatments |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | including chemotherapy and radiation; like many diseases, early |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | detection can be key to a successful outcome; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Since 2009, the Testicular Cancer Foundation has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | provided education and support to young men and has helped raise |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | awareness of the disease by stressing the need for regular |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | self-examinations; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The foundation has gained attention for creating |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | shower cards that depict clear and simple steps for a self-check |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | examination, and between 2012 and 2014, more than 40,000 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | potentially lifesaving cards were distributed; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Testicular Cancer Foundation is committed to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | providing accurate, factual, and encouraging information about |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | testicular cancer, and all those who work to promote its mission |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | are indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the staff and leadership of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Testicular Cancer Foundation and declare the month of April as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Testicular Cancer Month in Texas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
