2	2	WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association
3	3	are gathering at the State Capitol to celebrate Texas Retired
4	4	Teachers Association Day on April 8, 2015; and
5	5	WHEREAS, A resource and advocate for retired school
6	6	personnel across the state with nearly 80,000 members, the
7	7	association works diligently in behalf of current and future
8	8	public education retirees; and
9	9	WHEREAS, The association promotes the financial soundness
10	10	of the pension and retiree health care programs through its
11	11	support of a strong teacher retirement system; annuity payments
12	12	from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas have exceeded $8.5
13	13	billion, creating approximately 113,000 jobs in the Lone Star
14	14	State; and
15	15	WHEREAS, In addition, the association members devote time
16	16	and energy to improving their local communities; each year, they
17	17	give more than five and a half million hours of volunteer
18	18	service, equivalent to a value of more than $130 million; many of
19	19	these volunteer hours are dedicated to schools, where these
20	20	retired educators encourage reading by providing more than
21	21	700,000 books, including nearly 140,000 last year alone, to young
22	22	Texans through the Children's Book Project; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Texas Retired Teachers
24	24	Association has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education
25	25	and educators, and the members of this noteworthy organization are
26	26	making a positive and lasting difference in the lives of countless
27	27	residents of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
29	29	Legislature, hereby recognize April 8, 2015, as Texas Retired
30	30	Teachers Association Day at the State Capitol and extend to the
31	31	participants sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
32	32	informative visit; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
34	34	prepared for the Texas Retired Teachers Association as an
35	35	expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
