| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Georgetown in celebrating the 50th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary of the Georgetown Public Library; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Georgetown Public Library began its service |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | to the people of the area on March 21, 1966; it had an inventory |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of approximately 1,200 volumes and was located in two small rooms |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | off Main Street; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The library soon outgrew its first home and moved |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | into its own building in 1970; it continued to develop and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | expand, outgrowing its third location as well, and as it begins |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | its 50th year, it occupies a facility that includes nearly |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 111,000 books, a child-friendly first floor, and a coffee shop, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | along with the traditional quiet areas and meeting rooms on the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | second floor; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the library has received |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | invaluable support from the Friends of the Georgetown Library, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | whose more than 740 members make it one of the largest |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | organizations of its kind in the state; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Georgetown Public Library has been an |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | integral part of the social fabric of the city, and its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | half-century of service is being celebrated with a year's worth |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of anniversary events and activities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend the staff, volunteers, and patrons |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of the Georgetown Public Library on their commitment to literacy |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and public service and extend to them best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 50th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | honor of this special occasion. |
