55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Grimes County in mourning the loss of County
77 Commissioner Pamela Joy Finke, who died March 3, 2015, at the age
88 of 50; and
99 WHEREAS, Pam Finke was born on February 12, 1965, in
1010 Navasota, to Lois and Thomas Finke; she graduated in 1983 from
1111 Navasota High School, and she went on to earn a degree from Sam
1212 Houston State University; and
1313 WHEREAS, After college, she ran her own business and served
1414 as a volunteer for a number of organizations; her dedication to
1515 public service led her to seek elected office, and in 2002, she
1616 became the first woman to be elected a county commissioner in
1717 Grimes County when she was elected commissioner of Precinct 4; and
1818 WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished 12-year
1919 career on the commissioners court, she was noted for her
2020 willingness to do whatever was necessary to help the county's
2121 citizens, even going so far as to become certified as a jailer so
2222 that she could volunteer her services when needed; she played a
2323 vital role in the county's response to the wildfires that
2424 devastated the area in 2011; and
2525 WHEREAS, She also remained active in her church and in a
2626 variety of civic and philanthropic organizations, including the
2727 Red Cross, the Jaycees, and the 100 Club; and
2828 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and determination,
2929 she gave unselfishly to others, and her generous spirit, her
3030 commitment to public service, and her enthusiasm for living each
3131 day to the fullest will not be forgotten by her family and
3232 countless friends; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3434 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3535 family of Pamela Joy Finke; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3838 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3939 memory of Pam Finke.
