| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Grimes County in mourning the loss of County |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Commissioner Pamela Joy Finke, who died March 3, 2015, at the age |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | of 50; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Pam Finke was born on February 12, 1965, in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Navasota, to Lois and Thomas Finke; she graduated in 1983 from |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Navasota High School, and she went on to earn a degree from Sam |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Houston State University; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After college, she ran her own business and served |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as a volunteer for a number of organizations; her dedication to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | public service led her to seek elected office, and in 2002, she |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | became the first woman to be elected a county commissioner in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Grimes County when she was elected commissioner of Precinct 4; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished 12-year |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | career on the commissioners court, she was noted for her |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | willingness to do whatever was necessary to help the county's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | citizens, even going so far as to become certified as a jailer so |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | that she could volunteer her services when needed; she played a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | vital role in the county's response to the wildfires that |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | devastated the area in 2011; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, She also remained active in her church and in a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | variety of civic and philanthropic organizations, including the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Red Cross, the Jaycees, and the 100 Club; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and determination, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | she gave unselfishly to others, and her generous spirit, her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commitment to public service, and her enthusiasm for living each |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | day to the fullest will not be forgotten by her family and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | family of Pamela Joy Finke; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | memory of Pam Finke. |
