| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the First Baptist School in Brownsville on the grand |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its 60th anniversary and on the groundbreaking of its |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | new building and facilities; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The First Baptist School is an outreach ministry of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the First Baptist Church of Brownsville and provides educational |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | opportunities for students in Brownsville, Matamoros, Mexico, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the surrounding area; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The school began as a nursery and later expanded |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to serve students through the sixth grade; in 1980, the school |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | moved from its downtown location to a seven-acre site and began |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | offering curriculum through the eighth grade; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A high school was added in 2003, and the first |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | class of five students graduated in 2007; today, 300 students |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | attend the school, and one third of them are enrolled in the high |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | school; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The students of First Baptist School receive a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | quality education and have access to a variety of programs and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | activities to enrich their education and help prepare them for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the challenges of adulthood; the church is now preparing to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | construct a new building and provide athletic facilities to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | accommodate the school's growth; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the First Baptist Church and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the teachers and staff of the First Baptist School on the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | occasion of the school's 60th anniversary and extend to all |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of the school and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
