11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 526
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the First Baptist School in Brownsville on the grand
44 occasion of its 60th anniversary and on the groundbreaking of its
55 new building and facilities; and
66 WHEREAS, The First Baptist School is an outreach ministry of
77 the First Baptist Church of Brownsville and provides educational
88 opportunities for students in Brownsville, Matamoros, Mexico, and
99 the surrounding area; and
1010 WHEREAS, The school began as a nursery and later expanded
1111 to serve students through the sixth grade; in 1980, the school
1212 moved from its downtown location to a seven-acre site and began
1313 offering curriculum through the eighth grade; and
1414 WHEREAS, A high school was added in 2003, and the first
1515 class of five students graduated in 2007; today, 300 students
1616 attend the school, and one third of them are enrolled in the high
1717 school; and
1818 WHEREAS, The students of First Baptist School receive a
1919 quality education and have access to a variety of programs and
2020 activities to enrich their education and help prepare them for
2121 the challenges of adulthood; the church is now preparing to
2222 construct a new building and provide athletic facilities to
2323 accommodate the school's growth; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2525 Legislature, hereby congratulate the First Baptist Church and
2626 the teachers and staff of the First Baptist School on the
2727 occasion of the school's 60th anniversary and extend to all
2828 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor
3030 of the school and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
