SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 528 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the members of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department on the occasion of National Correctional Officers and Employees Week; and WHEREAS, National Correctional Officers and Employees Week is celebrated the first week of May to honor the contributions of correctional officers and personnel at the local, state, and national levels; and WHEREAS, The Dallas County Sheriff's Department operates the seventh-largest jail system in the United States; the jail system includes five jail facilities and a state-of-the-art centralized medical and mental health facility; and WHEREAS, A force of 1,500 Dallas County detention officers provides custodial care and supervision to approximately 6,000 inmates in the county with the support of some 200 clerks; each month, these dedicated public servants process more than 1.7 million pages of documents, and more than 80,000 inmates are booked each year; and WHEREAS, The members of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department have earned a reputation for diligence and high standards, and they are indeed deserving of recognition for their hard work and their commitment to excellence; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend the many committed professionals who work to ensure the success of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department and extend to them best wishes on the occasion of National Correctional Officers and Employees Week; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the department as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
