| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Lockhart in mourning the loss of civic leader Kennedy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Clay Roland, who died January 21, 2015, at the age of 52; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Kenny Roland was born on August 16, 1962, to Joe |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Irene Roland and Preston Roland Jr.; he was a 1980 graduate of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Lockhart High School, where he was a standout athlete on the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | football, basketball, and track teams; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed a 34-year career with the Bluebonnet |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Electric Cooperative as a journeyman lineman and construction |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | crew supervisor; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Roland was committed to public service, and in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1998, he became the first African American to be elected to the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Lockhart City Council; he represented District 1 for more than a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | decade before serving as an at-large council member; he was the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | founder of the District 1 Pride organization, and he played a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | vital role in organizing the city's first Martin Luther King Jr. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Parade; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and kindness, Kenny |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Roland gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | served as an inspiration to his family and countless friends; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband to his wife, Catherine, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | andadotingfathertohisdaughter,Kennedy,andheleaves |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | family of Kennedy Clay Roland; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
