                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 534
WHEREAS, CentroMed excels in its mission of providing
comprehensive, quality medical services for residents of Bexar
 County; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1973 as El Centro del Barrio, the
program was initially a counseling service for children and
adolescents; today a Federally Qualified Health Center, CentroMed
manages 23 clinics throughout Bexar and Comal Counties, where its
largely bilingual staff works to address the needs of low-income,
uninsured, and medically underserved families; no patient is
denied care based on ability to pay, and uninsured and ineligible
clients are charged a reasonable sliding-scale fee to help cover
 the cost of operation; and
WHEREAS, CentroMed is unique among Federally Qualified
Health Centers in the volume of clients who are treated at its
clinics; in 2014 alone, more than 71,000 patients received care
from CentroMed, 95 percent of whom lived below the federal
poverty line; its continued success in meeting this high demand
is made possible in part by funding support and by partnerships
with state indigent health programs, with agencies like the Texas
Department of State Health Services, and with several area
universities, hospitals, and homeless shelters; through the
medical help it offers to persons experiencing homelessness at
the Haven for Hope Transitional Campus near downtown San Antonio,
CentroMed is also the only Health Care for the Homeless grantee
 in Bexar County; and
WHEREAS, A trusted resource for countless area Texans,
CentroMed has made inestimable contributions to the health and
well-being of a vulnerable population in the region, and it is fitting
to commend the institution's dedicated staff and community
partners for their collective efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby recognize CentroMed for its exceptional
service to the community and extend to all those associated with
CentroMed sincere best wishes for continued success in their
vital endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for CentroMed as an expression of high regard from the
 Texas Senate.
